Milestones
William has been pretty good since the last post. He did pull his gastrostomy tube out again a few weeks ago and so Liza brought him in to me at work to replace it. It had been out for about 40 minutes and neither I nor Dom Frawley (William's GP) could replace it. The call was put in to his paediatrician, Mark de Souza who also had a go up at the hospital and although he couldn't get the gastrostomy tube in, he managed to get a Foley's catheter in which will do the trick temporarily. We had planned to pop the tube back in the next day under a light anaesthetic but William had a cold and we were happy to cope with the catheter for a bit longer.
William saw Guy Henry earlier this month. Guy discussed the pros and cons of having a fundoplication. Basically the major pro is that he will not be able to vomit... and the major con is that he will not be able to vomit. We will be able to vent him though the gastrostomy while he still has that and we will have a really good reason to convince him not to experiment with a bottle of bourbon when he is eighteen!
We are waiting on a date for that but hopefully it will be early in June.
William saw Steve Cooper recently as well and his heart seems to be doing quite well. He has been weaned off the frusemide (a fluid medication to stop swelling). His valves were looking good at the echocardiogram and the blood is all moving in the right direction. He is managing oxygen saturations in the high 70s at the moment so we still have some breathing (and growing) space.
Speaking of growing, William has reached a few milestones! He recently passed the 8kg mark and seems to be keeping up with the growth. He is not going to crawl but he is moving around with the 'bottom scoot' like nothing else! He is quite the escape artist now and loves to explore.
He has finally got his first tooth - two in fact! The two bottom centre teeth both erupted this week. Now if only he would use them to chew on something...
