William has been going well
William has been going well. The gastrostomy tube means we have almost forgotten how he looked with a tube perpetually taped to his cheek. Well, actually we remember very well but are just appreciating seeing all of his face!
Four days after getting out of hospital we were staying at a place in South Durras where I had a conference on. Liza was kid wrangling while I was at workshops and seminars. During one break in the proceedings we were putting him back into the travel cot and the end of the tube snagged as Liza was putting him down. The PEG tube came straight out! The poor little boy was crying as his stomach contents bubbled out of the hole left in his abdomen. Fortunately we had a temporary tube and the hole in the stomach stayed lined up with the hole in his skin long enough to get it straight in. A bit of Panadol for a few days and William was back to normal again.
He is still vomiting – perhaps a little less some days but overall he is much the same. We are gradually increasing the rate at which we feed him so that we can give him more time off the pump. We have gone from continuous feeds to now about 18 hours per day.
He is looking healthy and generally he is very happy. He is still showing no inclination to crawl (probably a very good thing at the moment with so much time hooked up to a tube) but loves to sit and play with us and with his brother and sister. And he absolutely loves a cuddle!
