The Life and Times of William Hodgkins

In 2005, Adam and Liza Hodgkins found that they were expecting their third child. When abnormalities of the heart were discovered at the 19 week ultrasound, they started a journey that would hold incredible emotions and stresses for themselves, their family and certainly for young William Hodgkins when he was born. Half a day and no tubes

We had a lovely long weekend. On Sunday we took William's nasogastric tube out in the morning to see how he would go having to get all his food and fluids via his mouth. We tried bottles, breast, sipper cups, spoons and even slowly syringing milk into his mouth as he sucked on a dummy. After a pretty intensive day of trying things we had to put his tube back in that evening so that he didn't dehydrate. He coped with us trying most things but really was not yet interested in eating or drinking by mouth. The only thing that he did with great gusto was to suck on a wash cloth in the bath. (We are not about to soak wash cloths in milk to feed him though.)
It was nice to have him unencumbered by any tubes for twelve hours.
